(27thOct) Something Southerners Can Envy.

A lovely surprise in the trap on the 27th. It was quite noticeable due to it's size and colouration. We thought most of the good stuff was gone due to the cooling temp, dampness and wind but just shows it's well worth putting the trap out even in the text book "less favourable" nights.

Weather.

I suppose dependant on habitat and location the Moths won't always be trapped. Non the less I have put the trap out as often as I am able but there has been no doubt the numbers trapped have been low. On the up side though, a few new moths for the year have been recorded.

Hard to imagine that this is the first Silver Y trapped this year in the garden.

I need to live further South or East!

I have had the trap out over the last week about 3 times and last night was the only night that moths were trapped. Surprisingly a first trapping of the year of the Angle Shades. The only other moth was a Large Yellow Underwing.

Elephant Hawkmoth

Always at the wrong time......

I decided to set up another blog covering another interest of ours. The wrong time as usual as the time of year will mean that not many moths will be around in the North West of the UK, well certainly not in Rossendale. Anyway having built a trap back at the beginning of the year we endeavoured to run the trap more frequently in most weathers.

I even put the trap out last night (1st Oct) and sure enough not a single moth although it was very windy and quite damp.
